Ithaafushi Island

Description

Waldorf Astoria Maldives’s concept aims to harmoniously blend the resort in nature; nestled among white sands and crystal blue waters. The development consists of 3 pristine islands, surrounded by the crystal-clear azure waters of the Indian Ocean. The resort has 138 guest villas, ranging from 1, 2- and 3-bedroom villas and 4-bedroom presidential suite, carefully positioned and orientated to guarantee guest exclusivity and privacy, with the unsurpassed views over the ocean.
We ensure that our design follows the international standards meeting the local environmental requirements and needs. Building design, height, orientation and density is guided by the natural setting and local architectural style, to reduce visual impact and intrusion, while maximizing natural solutions and optimizing cultural integration and identity, especially at more sensitive sites. Sourced and harvested materials are maximized in construction, and consideration is given to the durability and the recyclable nature of all materials and furnishings used. Furthermore, it is at the design stage that many of the impacts could occur and can be avoided.
Operational facilities such as tertiary-level wastewater treatment systems, villas and beachfront lighting, renewable energy systems and other measures to limit energy and water consumption are considered to avoid biodiversity and ecosystem impacts during the operational phases.
In addition, consideration is given to the potential impacts of increased visitation to the surrounding area during the operation of the resort. To the maximum extent possible, native or naturalized plant and animal species are used in landscaping and gardening.
The natural linear shape of the islands allowed disposing all villas with a sea view whereby each space from living area, bedroom and bathroom are either overlooking a private beach or open to the ocean for the overwater and garden villas.
